Flora
Europaea (the typical species while this taxon is
mentioned only as a synonym)
| |
This taxon considered as a mere variety (var. horridum
Wimm. et Grab.) and much rarely an independent species (Cirsium horridum (Wimm. & Grab.)
Stankov, non (M.Bieb.) Fisch..) presents uniform populations in the whole boreal belt of
Central Europe with clear, constant and well defined characters from
the typical species. Therefore we think that it fully deserves the
rank of a subspecies. It is a ruderal which inshabits the disturbed
plots from the boreal belt. The relations of this taxon with the
typical species would make a very interesting evolutionary
study.
